ACCC points out competition concerns with Woolworths’ proposed acquisition of SUPA IGA Karabar

Dec 08, 2022

ACCC via its media release announced that there are preliminary competition concerns with Woolworths’s (ASX: WOW) planned acquisition of the independent supermarket operating as SUPA IGA in Karabar, and co-located liquor store operating as Liquor Boss.

At present, Woolworths and SUPA IGA Karabar compete in providing groceries in the wider Queanbeyan region (surrounding Karabar and Jerrabomberra). WOW operates two supermarkets within a 5 km radius of SUPA IGA Karabar, in Queanbeyan and Jerrabomberra.

Other than this, ACCC is also investigating the effect of the acquisition on the competitiveness of other independent supermarkets in the region.
