ABS provided data of COVID-19 deaths that occurred by 30 November 2022

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has provided the data of COVID-19 deaths that occurred by 30 November 2022 that have been registered and received by the ABS:

  • Total 13,641 deaths occurred, where people passed away with or from COVID-19 by 30 November 2022 have been registered and received. The ABS anticipates to get additional registrations for this period from the jurisdictional Registries of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
  • In which 11,077 (81.2%) peoples’ underlying cause of death was COVID-19. 
  • Rest 2,564 people who died of other reasons such as cancer and other disease but COVID-19 contributed to their death. 
  • Prolonged cardiac situations were the most common pre-existing chronic condition for those who had COVID-19 certified as the underlying reason of death.
  • Since August 2021, there were 228 deaths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples due to COVID-19.
