ABS announced the statistics of Building approvals in September 2022

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reported a 5.8% drop in September 2022 in the total number of dwellings approved following a 23.1% growth in August 2022.

The drop in the approval was driven by private sector houses which tumbled 7.8%.

  • In South Australia, total dwelling approvals dropped 19.7%.
  • Western Australia noted a 9.3% fall in dwelling approvals.
  • New South Wales  and Queensland witnessed a drop of 8.8% and 6.2% in total dwelling approvals, respectively.
  • Victoria was the only state to record an increase in dwelling approvals by 3.4%.

Approval for private sector houses fell in all states. Western Australia declined 11.4%, Queensland by 8.6%, New South Wales by 7.9%, Victoria by 4.7% and South Australia by 4.3%.
