Goulamina Mining Services Contract Awarded to Specialist West African Operator

Jul 14, 2023

Corica Mali, a subsidiary of Corica Mining Services, has been awarded a mining services contract at the Goulamina Lithium Project in Mali. The contract, valued at approximately $US348 million (~$A520 million), was secured through a competitive tender process. It includes pre-production activities for six months followed by a fixed five-year term.

The scope of the contract encompasses various services such as grade control, drill and blast, load and haul, and plant ore feed. Corica Mali, known for its extensive mining services expertise and strong local content presence in West African countries like Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, and Burkina Faso, has already mobilized to the site and is currently undertaking pre-strip and Direct Shipped Ore (DSO) mining and crushing services.

Leo Lithium (ASX: LLL), the company overseeing the Goulamina Lithium Project, aims to enhance local content and contribute to the economic growth of the Goulamina region and Mali as a whole through its procurement strategy. By appointing Corica as the mining services contractor, Leo Lithium takes a significant step towards achieving its target of commencing spodumene concentrate production in the first half of 2024.

Goulamina Lithium Project in Mali

Leo Lithium is developing the Goulamina Lithium Project, a world-class lithium venture in Mali. The project is set to become a significant producer of spodumene concentrate, with a forecast production capacity of 506,000 to 831,000 tonnes per annum. Construction is progressing well, and the project enjoys substantial funding, including equity funding from Ganfeng and debt facilities.

Goulamina boasts a large-scale, high-grade orebody, making it one of the world's largest spodumene projects. The spodumene concentrate derived from the deposit exhibits high quality, low impurities, and successful conversion to battery-grade lithium hydroxide. Ganfeng, the project's partner, provides funding, offtake agreements, and operational support, further de-risking the development process.

With its focus on providing essential raw materials to the lithium-ion battery value chain, Goulamina aligns with the decarbonization thematic and supports the clean energy future.
