Australia Provides AU$10.4 Million of DroneShield Equipment to Ukraine

Oct 26, 2023

In a significant move, Australia is supplying AU$10.4 million worth of counterdrone equipment from DroneShield Ltd (ASX:DRO) to Ukraine as part of the latest Australian Government aid package. This aid package, with a total value of AU$20 million, is aimed at providing military assistance to Ukraine. The move comes in response to the urgent need for counterdrone measures in Ukraine due to continued drone attacks by Russia.

Australian Government's Commitment

DroneShield, a leading provider of drone detection and defeat systems, has received multiple orders from the Australian Government as part of this military assistance package. The company is set to play a vital role in helping Ukraine defend against the ongoing threat of drone attacks. A significant portion of the AU$10.4 million, specifically AU$5 million, has already been received, contributing to DroneShield's record AU$48.2 million in cash receipts year-to-date, as announced in the company's latest quarterly 4C release. The remaining cash receipts are expected to be received by the end of 2023.

Political Support and Technological Advancements

The move to supply counterdrone equipment has garnered support from prominent Australian political figures. The Hon Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, highlighted that this contribution not only aids Ukraine but also promotes Australia's sovereign defense industry and technology sector. The Hon Richard Marles, Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and Minister for Defence, reiterated Australia's commitment to standing with Ukraine and supporting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

DroneShield's Role in Ukraine

DroneShield CEO Oleg Vornik emphasized that drone attacks by Russia have been a recurring threat in Ukraine since the conflict began. The deployment of DroneShield's drone detection and defeat systems to Ukraine as part of this sovereign aid package is seen as a significant step in countering these threats.

The Australian Government's assistance underscores the importance of technological advancements in addressing contemporary security challenges, particularly in regions affected by conflict. The supply of counterdrone equipment not only aids Ukraine but also strengthens Australia's position in the global defense technology landscape.
